Lindsay Lohan's comeback movie The Canyons has become her biggest flop to date after bringing in a measly US$30,100 (NZ$37,784) at the US box office in its opening weekend.
The actress appears onscreen alongside real life porn star James Deen in the low-budget erotic thriller, but the film failed to gross even a fraction of its reported $250,000 production costs in American cinema takings over the weekend.
The movie was widely panned by critics and its paltry takings makes it Lohan's biggest film failure in terms of opening weekend earnings figures, especially when compared to her earlier efforts.
Hit comedy Mean Girls made an impressive $86 million when it opened in the US in 2004, while Herbie: Fully Loaded made $64 million in 2005.
Before The Canyons, Lohan's lowest grossing film was Chapter 27 which co-starred Jared Leto as Mark Chapman, John Lennon's murderer, earning a first weekend total of just $56,215 in 2008.
