Home Brew say it's "an honour" to become the first local rap group to top the New Zealand album charts since Scribe in 2003.
The Auckland-based trio released their self-titled debut - a double album - last week, and saw it climb to the top of the charts immediately.
It beat popular albums by Adele, Jack White and The Black Keys.
The last Kiwi rapper to hit No. 1 was Scribe with The Crusader in 2003.
Home Brew's front man Tom Scott said he hoped the group had made an album that "resonated" with their fans.
