Visiting 1980s pop star Lionel Richie says a new duet of one of his hits was a natural way for him to help the people of Christchurch.
Richie and Australia's Guy Sebastian have recorded a version of his 1983 hit All Night Long, for which all proceeds will go towards the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.
"I can think of no better use for one of my most successful copyrights than to help raise needed funds for the people of New Zealand," Richie said.
"New Zealand has been very good to me over the course of my career and I welcome the opportunity to return the kindness."
Richie said he chose All Night Long because "it will give people a reason to donate and celebrate the good times ahead instead of just dwelling in the past".
Richie and Sebastian will perform the song on stage during their current New Zealand tour.
"Being offered the tour with Lionel is a real honour but getting to record with him is truly humbling," Sebastian said.
The single, available for download, is produced by RedOne, a Grammy Award winner known for his collaborations with Lady Gaga.
