But it's nary a Lohan comeback without a potential spanner in the works.
Former Transformer star Megan Fox is now also in the running for the coveted lead role in the movie.
According to E! News, both LiLo, 25, and Fox, 25, are being considered for the part.
"I've been talking to Lindsay Lohan directly, and with her reps, and have been in conversations with other actresses, including Megan Fox," the film's executive producer, Larry Thompson, told the website.
"It's a very serious selection. It's like casting for Hollywood royalty."
Lohan's rep kept mum on the casting news, telling People, "Until an agreement is reached, we're not commenting."
But TMZ reports that Lohan is chomping at the bit to score the role.
Sources tell the scandal sheet that the starlet is in the final stages of negotiating a deal, and she could sign a contract as early as next week.
Production is expected to begin in Canada in the spring.
The Mean Girls actress is on probation until the end of March. Provided she keeps out of mischief and complies with the terms of her sentencing, she could well bag the role.
Incidentally, LiLo rocked up in court today before Judge Stephanie Sautner to give her second probation progress report.
In a nutshell: Full marks for effort, LiLo. And congratulations, you're on target to complete all of your probation requirements by March 29.
"Just keep doing what you're doing," Sautner told Lohan during the three-minute hearing. "You appear to be doing it well."
Her next appearance is scheduled for February 22.
But even when she's on the level, trouble always seems to favour LiLo's company.
While on her way to court today, Lohan was served with a bizarre lawsuit by a man who claims she, wait for it, "might be a high end prostitute".
TMZ obtained a copy of the suit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, which it describes as "essentially 12 pages of incomplete, incoherent gibberish", and filed by a Thomas A. Green.
Green, who claims to be a former US Marine, accuses Lohan of backing out of a business deal and is seeking $300,000 for unfair business practices.
Clear as mud. Check out the lawsuit here [pdf].
Back to the Liz and Dick show...
Who do you think should get the gig: Lindsay or Megan? Or do you think there's a better actress for the part?
