Liam Hemsworth: Miley Cyrus 'wasn't just a fling'

Australian actor Liam Hemsworth has spoken out about former fiancé Miley Cyrus, saying their love was "real".

During an interview with Men's Fitness the Hollywood heart throb said he would always love his former flame.

The pair met while filming The Last Song in 2010, splitting in 2013 about the time Cyrus dramatically changed up her image to distance herself from Disney.

"You fall in love with who you fall in love with; you can never choose," Hemsworth, 25, told Men's Fitness.

"I guess some people just come with a little more baggage."

The Dressmaker star said his lingering feelings weren't negative, adding that meant the relationship was "real".

"I don't think those feelings will ever change... it wasn't just a fling. She's a free spirit. I think she'll always surprise people with what she does, but she's not a malicious person in any way.

"She's a young girl who wants to do what she wants to do."

Hemsworth was recently linked to actress Maika Monroe, after the pair were reportedly seen kissing at a party in July.

Meanwhile Cyrus is Miley Cyrus is in a relationship with New Zealand-raised model Stella Maxwell.

The 24-year-old Victoria's Secret model was born in Europe but raised in Wellington and studied at Otago University in Dunedin.

In July they were spotted kissing, prior to that Cyrus opened up in an interview with Paper magazine saying she was "down" to date either sex.

In the interview she revealed it was the attitude of men, which put her off heterosexual relationships.
