Lego Movie 2: The Second Part trailer: is everything still awesome?

A new trailer has been released for the best film franchise to climb out of the toybox – and we're not talking about Transformers.

The Lego Movie won a BAFTA and wowed children and parents alike upon its release in 2015, so it's not surprising that Warner Bros are keen to repeat the success of the building block-based film.

In this second outing, suave heroine Lucy (Elizabeth Banks, Modern Family) is still taking care of hapless Emmet (Chris Pratt, Parks and Recreation, Guardians of the Galaxy) in the ruins of Bricksburg.

After their hometown that was destroyed in the first film, it looks like something from Mad Max: Fury Road, but Emmet is determined to continue believing that everything is awesome.

But his sunny outlook is tested when Bricksburg is threatened (again) by DUPLO monsters from outer space who kidnap Lucy. Will Emmet be able to rescue her? Will the incompetent sidekick even be able to cope without his Master Builder buddy?

Both questions to be answered with trademark Lego charm for the kids and some multi-layered wit for the adults.

Pratt is joined by his Parks and Rec co-star Nick Offerman as Metal Beard, whilst fan favourites and Bojack Horseman stablemates Will Arnett and Alison Brie are LEGO BatmanTM and Unikitty respectively. They're joined by Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz and Arturo Castro as the gang journey to another vibrant brickscape.

Original directing duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are writing the screenplay.
