The Laneway Festival is to remain in Auckland and will return to Silo Park next year.
The alternative music touring event will return to the Wynyard Quarter for a fifth time after a mooted shift to Auckland Domain - due to development on the waterfront site adjacent to the park - was rejected by Auckland Council.
That led to Wellington and Christchurch sending entreaties to shift the festival south.
Promoters said they had been kneecapped by a lack of Auckland site and not enough time to seek resource consent for a new venue which suited the boutique music festival's draw of about 12,000 punters.
But a compromise has been worked out with Auckland Council's Panuku Development to allow Laneway to return to Silo Park for what is likely to be the last time.
