Lamar Odom is reportedly showing signs of recovery after a suspected drug overdose in a Nevada brothel that cost the former NBA star US$75,000 (NZ$109,000).

The Kardashian/Jenner clan have rallied behind Khloe Kardashian's estranged husband, who has been hospitalised on life support after spending four days in a brothel.

Entertainment Tonight reported a source as saying that Odom had fluttered his eyelids and squeezed Kim Kardashian West's hand during a visit.

"They are devastated. They have tried so hard to help Lamar with his issues and it breaks their hearts that he could lose this battle," a source told ET.

"The entire family is pulling for Lamar to make it through this."

Khloe has flown to Nevada to be by Lamar's bedside and is making medical decisions for him as although she filed for divorce in 2013 amid claims he'd cheated on her and was addicted to crack cocaine, there is said to be a backlog in the family law courts.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star delayed her divorce for a year and a half as she tried to save her marriage to Lamar - with whom she tied the knot after a month of dating in 2009 - and although they both eventually signed their final divorce documents the backlog means it won't be completed for at least two months, TMZ has reported.

Members of the Kardashian clan have taken to social media to post messages of support.

The Rev Jesse Jackson, who visited Odom at the hospital yesterday, said doctors believe he is recovering after being totally unresponsive on Tuesday.

"Apparently from what the doctor said, he was much better off today than yesterday.

"He at least has some responsiveness now," Jackson said.

Kardashian and some of Odom's childhood friends were by his side, and former Lakers teammate Kobe Bryant visited him on Wednesday night, Jackson said. "He's got tubes in him now but we felt inspired by his presence," he said. "We're just holding hands and hoping he can bounce back."

Khloe makes medical decisions for Odom

Odom started "throwing up all kinds of stuff" when the 911 operator told them to turn him on his side, Hof told the Associated Press in a phone interview.

Sheriff Sharon Wehrly said investigators sought a warrant to obtain a blood sample to determine if Odom suffered a drug or alcohol overdose.

Hof said Odom arrived alone on Sunday and "spent time socialising with some of my girls", but wasn't seen taking any illegal drugs.

"He was polite and reserved, and he told multiple employees that he was there to get some privacy and spend some time relaxing," he said. "He largely kept to himself, and at no time did he engage in any drug use in the presence of anyone in the house.

"He did drink alcohol from our bar, and was taking some herbal sexual enhancement capsules.

"At his request, he spent Monday evening alone in his suite," he said.

'Go to hell'

The owner of the brothel where Odom collapsed has told Khloe Kardashian to "go to hell".

Dennis Hof, who runs the Love Ranch in Nevada where Lamar partied for four days before being found unconscious and foaming at the mouth on Tuesday, claimed Khloe's publicist asked him not to talk to the media about the tragic basketball star.

However, Hof, 69, insisted that he doesn't care what Khloe, 31, or her family thinks of him and has been giving interviews to a number of publications, detailing 35-year-old Lamar's time at the ranch where he partied with prostitutes, took herbal Viagra and drank cognac.

Speaking to Nancy Grace on her TV show, he said: "I got a call from the Kardashians' publicist today saying 'Are you going to do any media?' and I said 'Yes I'm going to go on the Nancy Grace show'.

"And she said ''please don't do that, we'd rather have Khloe say what needs to be said'. I told her to go to hell."

He reiterated his comments to the New York Daily News, explaining: "They asked me not to talk to the media. I told her to pass on a message: 'Go to hell'. If she really cared about this man, he wouldn't be at my place with my girls."

Hof claimed Lamar looked "terrible" when he was found alone in his room and medical staff were unsure of his chances of survival.

He told Entertainment Tonight: "He looked terrible. He looked like a guy who was really sick and needed to be rushed to an ER immediately....

"We called 911, my staff did. They said 'Roll him on his left side' and he started throwing up a lot but he was breathing. Then the ambulance and the police came and took him to the [hospital]. They said he was in bad shape and they thought he might not make it."

Costly stay

Odom had reportedly spent US$75,000 at the Love Ranch brothel.

TMZ reports that Lamar was picked up at his Las Vegas home and chauffeured to the ranch where he chose two women to cater to his every need during his stay.

In total, his stay, including VIP suite and access to the prostitutes, cost him US$75,000.

Although brothel owner Hof claimed Lamar only took herbal Viagra and drank cognac during his stay, it has been claimed he had "virtually every drug imaginable" in his body when he was found.

He is reportedly likely to have suffered "brain damage" as a result of a "loss of oxygen but also a possible stroke," and doctors are treating the situation as a non-suicidal "overdose".

A source told E! News: "Drugs were found in his system. [He] had been partying since Friday. He was doing crack cocaine all weekend and he choked on his mucous. They're now having to fix all the damage it has done.

"Virtually every drug imaginable was found in his system."

Struggle and tragedy

Odom emerged as one of the most promising basketball talents of his generation after a difficult childhood in Queens, where his mother died of cancer when he was 12 and his father was addicted to heroin.

He eventually won two NBA championship rings and an Olympic medal, and became a star on reality TV.

But his life never seemed free of struggle and tragedy, most tragically the death of his infant son in 2006.

He married Kardashian in 2009, their wedding taped for the E! network, and their marriage chronicled on the Khloe & Lamar show.

Kardashian filed for divorce in 2013, citing irreconcilable differences.
