Lady Gaga in talks to join rockers Queen

Lady Gaga has been offered the role left vacant by Freddie Mercury as the singer for British rock icons Queen, reports suggest.

Guitarist Brian May told the Daily Express the band had approached the controversial pop star and asked her if she'd like to join the band for a tour.

"We talk about going out on the road all the time but there's a bit of a singer problem to put it mildly," he told the Daily Express.

"We get a lot of offers to work with other people. I worked with Lady Gaga and she's very creative and is someone we've talked about singing, fronting the band with.

"She's not just a singer, she writes her own material ... Lady Gaga has said she would like to do something with us."

May, 64, said if Gaga says no, another option is to work with a roster of guest singers.

"We have talked about doing duets with other people and in a strange way I almost pressed the yes button. We were debating the idea of a TV show where we have all these guest stars. We didn't press it today but we are still looking at it."

Queen formed in 1971 and have written some of the most enduring hits of the past 40 years, including We Will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody and A Kind of Magic.

But their time at the top came to an end when Mercury died in 1991. Queen have toured sporadically since, but never reaching the same heights of success.
