Two Kiwi filmmakers are heading to America to rub shoulders with Hollywood's elite - but they were in need of a small cash injection first.
Director Jordan Dodson and producer Alix Whittaker's short film Runaways, about a pair of kids who create havoc with a couple's relationship when they hide out on a rural property, has been selected to screen at the American Film Institute Festival in early November.
The festival will open with the world premiere of Hitchcock, starring Anthony Hopkins as famous film director Alfred Hitchcock, and close with the premiere of Steven Spielberg's Lincoln.
Runaways was selected to appear as part of the festival's short film selection. But Dodson and Whittaker shot the film on 35mm and needed to convert the film into a digital format for screenings - at a cost of $1725.
Dodson and Whittaker managed to raise the money through the website Pledge Me, and thanks to a pair of donated plane tickets, will be heading to the festival in late October.
