Kiwi actor's haka for Battleship stars (+video)

When the All Blacks won the World Cup last year, Kiwi actor John Tui was stuck in Hawaii on the set of blockbuster movie Battleship.

But Tui - one of the stars of the science-fiction film based on the board game of the same name - wanted to celebrate in his own way.

So he performed a haka.

Gathering up members of a local kapa haka group, Tui performed the haka on the deck of a battleship being used as a set for the film, with members of the film's cast and crew watching on.

The film's stars include Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna and Liam Neeson.

Tui recently told the Herald on Sunday that other members of the crew appreciated his down-to-Earth approach to acting.

"One thing about us Kiwis is we don't tend to brag too much. We're a country that prides itself on hard work and just getting amongst it."

He said he loved working on the $250 million film.

"I loved it. The food was fantastic. For someone from South Auckland, it was a huge experience."

Tui's haka was filmed by Battleship director Peter Berg, and the footage was today placed on YouTube.
