New Zealand's opera queen Dame Kiri Te Kanawa was last night inducted into the Hollywood Bowl hall of fame in Los Angeles - and celebrated in style.
Dame Kiri sang two duets with her 1971 castmate from the opera Figaro, Frederica von Stade, and some solo arias, after earlier saying she did not feel the hall of fame award meant that her career is over.
She told the Los Angeles Times that she has been retooling her career, but the recitals and teaching were an extension of her career and not an epilogue, she said.
Instead, she is pursuing an interest in younger singers.
"I'm really very anxious to find the new generation."
