Kardashian was the guest co-host on US TV show Live with Kelly on Monday, and the reality star again slammed rumours that she married for profit.
"It's been a hard couple of months," she told host Kelly Ripa, revealing that after her marriage was over, she moved in with her mother, Kris Jenner, packing just "two pairs of sweatpants and a pair of pajamas."
"I really did some soul searching, and I needed that," she explained. "I needed to just be with the family."
She then hit back at accusations that her marriage was a hoax.
"Me being such a hopeless romantic, I wanted to believe in something so badly," Kardashian said. "Khloe and Lamar got married after knowing each other for a month and they're going on three years. My mum and Bruce after five months got married and they just celebrated their 20th anniversary. I fell in love and thought it could work just like the examples that I saw."
'A bad business decision ...'
Kardashian then quipped that her divorce was "a bad business decision."
"If you really think about it, if this was a business decision and I really made all that money that everyone was claiming that we made off this wedding, and if the wedding was fake and just for TV, I'm a smart businesswoman, I would have stayed married longer!" she said.
"This was a bad business decision, you know what I mean? So, if you really think about it, it doesn't make sense that everyone says that."
She continued, "I really didn't think that following my heart would create this much backlash."
Kardashian, who described herself as a "hopeless romantic," said she "tried everything" to make the marriage work.
"I definitely tried everything I could [to save it], but also heard stories of people who had kids and stayed married for years and it didn't end up working out," she said. "I want babies and that forever love and if I felt in my heart that this wasn't right, why wait years for the same result?"
But Kardashian says she hasn't given up on love.
"I think I just learned that I need to rewrite my fairytale," she said.
And while she opened up about her own split, she shied away from commenting on Heidi Klum and Seal's break-up.
"I would never wish anyone to go through a divorce. But after what I've been through, I see that you don't really know until you're in that person's shoes," she said. "People don't really see my heart and I just want them to understand why I do what I do. So when I see other people that I might understand their situation, I say, 'You've really got to step back because you don't know what they're going through.'"
