KEY POINTS:
Kerry Katona has admitted for the first time that she is an alcoholic, according to reports.
The former Atomic Kitten singer - who appeared drunk when she slurred her way through a recent interview on UK TV show This Morning - confessed she was diagnosed with the condition four years ago.
She said: "I was diagnosed as an alcoholic after a stay in The Priory
clinic. This is not common knowledge as I've never admitted it before."
The 28-year-old star had previously denied her shambolic appearance on the ITV show had anything to do with drinking, claiming it was due to the medication she had taken for her bi-polar disorder.
But now the mother-of-four has admitted to binges of up to 15 vodka shots or peach schnapps at a time.
She added: "Along with my bi-polar disorder this is an ongoing battle I will face for the rest of my life. Yes, I still have a drink when I want to, like any other 28-year-old woman.
"Some people think that an alcoholic is someone who drinks all the time but in fact it can be someone who drinks twice a month and gets hammered.
"I can get through days without having a drink but it's hard. I can never promise myself or my family that I can beat this addiction but I'll try hard."
Kerry claims she is not attending Alcoholics Anonymous meeting to help her beat the addiction because she is in "control" of her problem.
