has sent the rumour mill into overdrive by dropping hints she may be expecting her fiancé

's baby.

Days after British comic Brand, 34, proposed to her during a romantic interlude in India, Perry peppered her Twitter page with a series of cryptic hints she may have a ciabatta in the oven.

Reading between the tweets...

Tongues began wagging after she posted a message to her flame on Twitter yesterday, saying: "

Hey @rustyrockets (Brand's Twitter name) I heard ur prego-ed

."

Perry, 25, also alluded to a possible pregnancy just a few days earlier, posting on New Year's Day, saying: "

Let me tell you 2010 is BUMPIN!

"

And on Christmas day she posted a picture of a baby in a Santa outfit, scribing: "Future my child."

Prego-ed? Bumpin? Child? Hmmmmmm.

newspaper revealed Brand orchestrated a finely-detailed plan to propose to his laydee.

A snitch said: "Russell caught everyone off-guard with the engagement.

"They've decided they won't be messing about and have already made a start on the plans for the big day."

A member of staff at the hotel revealed: "He had organised a special dining experience.

"We set a table in a garden with candles everywhere. They arrived in a horse and carriage with a glass of champagne and we served them dinner."

After munching on their candlelight dinner and gazing into each other's steamy eyes in the garden, the pair sat on an elephant to watch the fireworks at midnight.

"Then they were taken to the Mughal Garden - which was decorated by flowers and candlelight.

"Mr Brand had given his butler the diamond ring to hide among the flowers. Miss Perry found it, he proposed, and she immediately said 'Yes'," the source added.

Afterwards, the couple requested 45 minutes of privacy…for her to get used to the idea of being married to possibly the

in showbusiness. Sorry, but he does look like he needs a good wash.

The couple flew to Thailand after their Indian love-a-thon to celebrate their engagement, and then headed to London on Friday.

They were snapped trotting the snow-covered pavements outside Brand's Hampstead home over the weekend, with one major accessory in tow...Perry's rock of love.

'He could slay anybody...'

The couple first met over a year ago at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards and began dating last September. Perry says it was love at first sight.

She says he's got the gift of the gab and loves his stand-up gags, crowing: "He has an amazing vocabulary. He could slay anybody with the things that he says." Oh, the silver-tongued devil.

Perry also dished about the first time they shared a kiss – while filming a scene for Brand's new flick

"On the way down the stairs after the scene, I was hopping like a bunny. I hop like a bunny when I'm happy – I get a bit childlike."

Brand and Perry's spokespeople have refused to comment on the pregnancy rumours.

Shotgun wedding?

So could a shotgun wedding me on the cards? Who knows. It could all be just another case of an attention-seeking celebrity stirring for publicity on Twitter. And let's face it, she's got a captive audience on there.

Then again the engagement between her and odd-coiffed Brand does seem a little bit rushed. And Brand has made no secret of the fact that he'd like kids with Perry.

He recently said: "I am ready for children actually. It's been seven years since I took drugs. I've made a film. I don't have to fight so much. I've grown weary of the carousel.

"Katy's lovely and I'm living a different way at the moment."
