She is now known as one of pop's most provocative performers, wearing typically outrageous costumes on tour.
But back in 2001, Katy Perry was a shy 17-year-old trying to make it as a singer on the Christian rock scene.
In previously unreleased footage posted by Buzzfeed, a young Katy is seen being interviewed by cameraman Jim Standridge who had been commissioned by Perry's then record label to make a short documentary of the star.

Unlike the confident personality she now possesses, Katy is seen looking nervous as she continually plays with her hair while discussing her stage fright.
She also reveals she 'puts on a lot of make-up before the show, because I'm a pizza face'.
The interview is inter-cut with stage performances, showing Perry singing and playing guitar with just a drummer as back-up on stage.
It is certainly a far cry from her breakthrough hit I Kissed A Girl and the accompanying video.
At one point, Katy is seen getting upset when she confessed she missed her mother and father.
Talking about the video, Standridge revealed: 'The other day I was cleaning out some old footage in my office and found 90 minutes of raw footage I had totally forgot about.'
'I quickly put together a short edit of the experience with Katy. Funny how she spent so much time messing with her hair.'
Adding: 'In the present day her hair changes color and style in every photo shoot, music video and performance.'
'I think Katy has grown into an amazing entertainer and woman. Enjoy.'
