"Karen Mok is a household name to most Chinese people, because if they have not heard her songs, they would have seen her in the movies," said event organiser Paul Young.
"I know many people are excited that she is coming to New Zealand."
Since breaking into the music scene in the 1990s, her hits have regularly been in the Asian music charts.
Karen has starred in many movies, including the 2003 Jackie Chan hit "Around the World in 80 Days" and the 2013 Keanu Reeves-directed movie "Man of Tai Chi".
Last year, she recorded an English and Italian version of Cheek to Cheek with Andrea Bocelli.
Karen has a massive following of more than 36 million followers on Weibo, a Chinese microblog service.
Fans can expect the songstress to belt out signature hits such as Diva and Faremewell and ballads like Departures and Precious.
"The concert aims to express different emotions and atmosphere, through an interplay of stories, an impressive staging and lighting events," organisers said.
A thousand laser beams will be used to recreate the Northern Lights and Karen will also be playing a traditional Chinese instrument guzheng solo.
The show a fashion extravaganza of sorts as she switches from sexy jazz lady to mythical butterfly fairy, with the aid of designers from Taiwan, France, Indonesia and Hong Kong.
"I'm always trying to do things that are different and have an element of surprise and fun," Karen said at the 2013 release of her first English album "Somewhere I belong".
