UPDATED:

Rapper

Kanye West

has lashed out at paparazzi after he was briefly arrested last week following a scuffle with a photographer at a night club.

West, 31, was reportedly arrested after an incident as he made his way out of a night club in Newcastle, England, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Reports say a photographer made an official complaint to police, alleging he'd suffered a scratch to his face and bruising after the singer pushed his camera into his face.

West, who was involved in another scuffle with a paparazzo at a Los Angeles airport in September, was later collared by the boys in blue at his hotel, and later released without charge.

'Who's winning, me or the media?'

True to form, an indignant West has taken to his blog to vent his anger over the arrest.

"Who's winning, me or the media? Regardless of how much light I put out, there are people working just as hard to only deliver darkness," he said.

West denies he assaulted the paparazzo, saying "I put my hand up to the camera in self defense!"

"I didn't assault him but merely [put] my hand up to cover his lens. My security yelled, ‘Get the camera off him.' I guess in all the commotion, the camera scraped his nose."

The star says he later returned to his hotel to find the cops waiting for him.

"The cops were very cordial but told me they had to arrest me because a complaint was filed," he wrote, adding that the cops realised it was "obviously a publicity stunt by the photographer" but that they had to "go through the motions".

West also drew parallels between his treatment by paparazzi and the death of Princess Diana, who died in a 1997 car crash while being chased by lens lizards.

"Let us not forget the paps killed Princess Diana," he wrote. "Right now the paps are above the law and the people they shoot are below it."

In his blog, West also called for a law to force paparazzi to ask permission to take a photograph.

"When will there be a law passed... that someone has to ask to take a photograph of you? That would seem like common courtesy.

"What should be illegal is pictures taken with the intent to sell - like drugs with the intent to sell."

blog entry here

Meanwhile, West's ego has landed.

In another blog entry, the grumpy one waxes lyrical about being the "

voice of his generation

", while demonstrating that he couldn't be more in love with himself if he tried.

I'm sorry, but there's a very fine line between self-confidence and being so far up your own backside, you think you're a musical Messiah.

"

I realise that my place and position in history is that I will go down as the voice of this generation, of this decade, I will be the loudest voice

," West muses.

He goes on to rant about

Justin Timberlake

, saying, "There were people who had the potential to do it but they went on vacation, so when Justin went on vacation I made albums."

He then takes a swipe at music critics who failed to give his recent UK gigs a glowing five-star review.

"

All of the critics who gave me one star less than full marks should eat s*** and die

. Music is a gift - it shouldn't get a rating."

Someone really needs to take a leap off ego rock and invest in a little humility.

Here's the deal: either West's the greatest comedian in the music industry, or he's deadly serious.
