The New York Post reports that West has been "spiralling" in recent months, stressed by his chaotic clothing line, his tour and wife Kim Kardashian's recent robbery in Paris.
A source close to the rapper said, "He's just exhausted. He's been working around the clock on fashion design, both on his own line and the Adidas line.
He's a notorious workaholic, so balancing both that work - which is extremely important to him - and the rigours of the tour every night ... really wore him out."
He is also said to continue to struggle with the death of his mother, Donda West, who passed away in 2007.
The November 10 anniversary is reported to have pushed West over the edge.
West infuriated fans, and presumably his Hillary Clinton-supporting wife, when he told fans at a concert that Donald Trump is a "genius."
"If I would've voted, I would've voted [for] Trump," he said.
West also had a go at best friend Jay-Z's wife, Beyonce, claiming she campaigned against him winning an MTV award.
"Beyoncé, I was hurt because I heard that you said you wouldn't perform unless you won Video of the Year over me and over Hotline Bling," he said.
"Sometimes we be playing the politics too much and forget who we are just to win," he continued. "I've been sitting here to give y'all my truth even at the risk of my own life - even at the risk of my own success, my own career."
