New Sunday presenter Miriama Kamo says some charitable advice from former frontman Cameron Bennett made up her mind to take the job.
Kamo will take the helm of TVNZ's flagship current affairs programme Sunday when it returns to air next weekend.
She replaces Bennett, who lost his role last year after 24 years in broadcasting in cost-cutting measures.
"He was the one who got me thinking about it last year," said Kamo.
"He encouraged me to do the job. I've had some wonderful encouragement from people at TVNZ."
Kamo spent six years presenting 20/20, a show she felt told "personal stories" very well.
She was looking forward to being a part of a programme that brought light to important issues, as well as telling the real and personal stories of Kiwis.
"Sunday is a programme of great prestige and quality, and it's a privilege to be working alongside journalists and crafts-people the country trusts and whom I admire greatly."
Kamo said she hadn't given up on her dream of going to live in Germany. She and partner Mike Dreaver, a Waitangi Treaty negotiator, split their time between their Auckland and Waiheke properties.
Meanwhile, Sonya Wilson has been named as the new 20/20 host. She speaks out today on the tabloid tone of her provocative new show.
