Justin Bieber paternity suit 'dropped'

Baby, baby, baby, no: The woman who publicly claimed Justin Bieber is the father of her baby has dropped her paternity lawsuit, according to a report.

Mariah Yeater, 20, filed a lawsuit in October alleging that she and Bieber, 17, met backstage at a concert in October last year in Los Angeles.

Yeater claimed in a signed affidavit that a minutes-long tryst between the two in a backstage bathroom resulted in the birth of her four-month-old son, Tristyn, this July.

Appearing on US TV show The Insider last week, Yeater claimed: "He immediately took a liking to me. We just got to talking. Eventually he asked me, he said, 'Would you mind if we could go somewhere and be alone?"

Yeater, who was demanding child support, also said she had evidence to support her claims. "It'll show in court to prove that my allegations are true," she told the show.

Bieber, who is dating Selena Gomez, had vehemently denied the claims.

"I would just like to say basically that none of those allegations are true," he said on The Today Show. "I know that I'm going to be a target but I'm never going to be a victim.

"I think it's crazy because every night after the show I'm gone, right from the stage to my car so it's crazy that some people want to make up such false allegations but to set the record straight, none of it is true. I've never met the woman," Bieber added.

Bieber's camp also confirmed that the singer would take a paternity test to prove the child was not his.

"I can confirm that the team has proactively made arrangements for Justin to be tested upon his return [from Europe] and we're going to hold everyone who is involved responsible," the singer's rep told MTV.

"We'll vigorously pursue all available legal remedies to protect Justin and to hold those involved with bringing this suit accountable for their actions."

According to gossip website TMZ, Yeater "quietly dismissed" her paternity suit last week. And her legal reps have also apparently resigned following a call from Bieber's lawyer, Howard Weitzman, threatening legal action.

A source close to the case also confirmed to Reuters that the paternity suit has been dropped.

Update: So it's smiles all round for the teen titan? Not so fast...

According to a custody lawyer working on behalf of Yeater, the baby daddy drama ain't over yet.

"In light of death threats directed toward my client, strategies have been reviewed. The San Diego case has been withdrawn, and we're trying to settle out of court with Bieber's counsel. We're working out a DNA test confidentially," Chicago-based paternity lawyer Jeffrey Leving told the NY Daily News.

He also dismissed reports that he had resigned.

"I did not resign. I still believe my client," he said, while confirming that Yeater's San Diego legal team has been replaced.

"I originally wanted a judge to order a DNA test to make sure the test's chain of custody was safeguarded. But the reality is that that was before these death threats escalated. And they've gotten so out of control, maintaining strict confidentiality is something we have to try. If this doesn't work, and we can't work it out, we can always re-file," he added.

The Canadian crooner's reps have refused to comment on the reports.

Bieber, on the other hand, is letting his finger do the talking.
