According to reports, fans were left waiting 30 minutes for the singer's return, but then the lights came up and the crew started packing up for the night.
Reviewer Felipe Gladiador, writing for Brazil's R7 website, said of Bieber's stage dash: "The scene was so shocking that even his dancers couldn't believe what they had seen.
"The fans didn't know what was going on and stayed in their seats half an hour, hoping that he would come back to finish the show," Felipe said.
"The public called for him, sang Baby, and yet nothing. The lights came on, Bieber's team started to take the equipment away and the fans realised it wasn't going to happen. In the end there was no farewell, no thanks and no rendition of his most famous song."
Bieber appeared to shrug off the episode after the show ended.
"We had a good time tonight. brazil goes hard," he tweeted. "u all were loud tonight. thanks for the love. it's all love. all the time. Obrigado Brazil! On to the next one. #BelieveTour again tomorrow."

The bottle toss wasn't Bieber's only Brazilian incident.
On Sunday night, Bieber took his show to Rio de Janeiro, where all went smoothly - until an overexcited Belieber decided he wanted to get up close and personal with the Canadian singer.
Per TMZ, the Biebs was mid-performance when a shirtless fan enthusiastically skipped his way along the stage to grab a hug from his hero. The singer's dancers quickly intervened, and the stage invader was swiftly carted off by a couple of Bieber's security team.
"I thought that was an extra dancer!" Bieber told to the crowd, adding, "I didn't know what the f**k."
He later chimed on Twitter: "Brazil you have been amazing. thank you. except this guy. he was too much," he wrote, while linking to fan-recorded video of the incident.
