Zack Snyder, who is directing Man of Steel, earlier hinted to the New York Post that Warner Bros trusts him to "keep them on course" toward a Justice League movie.
Asked whether the production company had asked him to help introduce Superman to a larger universe of heroes, he said:
"Um, how can I answer that? I can't really say anything to that, because that's a big spoiler. I will say, yeah, they trust me to keep them on course."
Gordon-Levitt appeared as young police officer John Blake in this year's The Dark Knight Rises and at the end of the film appeared to be moving into the batcave to become Batman.
He has not signed up to the Justice League movies officially and no other casting decisions have been made, The Guardian reported.
Gangster Squad writer Will Beall has been signed to pen a script for the film.
