John Malkovich's new movie due for release in 100 years

John Malkovich is making a movie that you're never going to see.

The star has written and will star in a film which won't be released for about 100 years.

100 Years: The Movie You Will Never See will be showcased at this year's Cannes Film Festival, but it will not actually screen there.

It will be put in what's essentially a time capsule, to be locked away until its release date of November 18, 2115.

"The notion inherent in this is for us to try and imagine what the world will be like in 100 years," Malkovich says in a trailer for the film.

Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Grindhouse) will direct the sci-fi film, coming on board for the opportunity to do something the likes of which has never been done before.

"I was intrigued by the concept of working on a film that nobody would ever see in my lifetime. I wanted it to be a work of art that is enjoyed in 100 years," he says in the trailer.

The film comes with the hashtag #notcomingsoon, and for now, the plot remains unclear.

In a statement, Thierry Fremaux, general delegate of Cannes Film Festival, praised the film as "an innovative cinematographic project" which he hoped would be considered for Cannes in 2116.
