The couple starred in MTV's Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica from 2003-2005.
It was in 2006 when Jessica filed for divorce, claiming to Billboard that her marriage was her biggest money mistake.
In 2012 and 2013, she starred as a judge and mentor on Fashion Star, as IMDB claims.
It was Jessica Simpson's move to the big screen that then brought in a lot of cash.
The star went on to appear as Daisy Duke in the film adaptation of The Dukes of Hazzard, which later led to her hit single These Boots Are Made For Walkin' which landed her a spot in the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100. The film grossed more than US$80 million.
But one of Simpson's biggest successes comes in the form of fashion, not singing or acting.
In 2005, Simpson launched The Jessica Simpson Collection, which was suited for the average woman, all sizes and ages included. It was an incredible move by her, with her brand raking in over US$1 billion revenue per annum, as Business of Fashion reports.
Something that has caught the interest of a lot of fans recently is Jessica's weight-loss journey. However, she has also made money from it, after signing with Weight Watchers.
In 2012 the star partnered with WW after shedding her baby weight, which earned her US$4 million.
Not only did she capitalise on her weight loss, but she used her pregnancy to her advantage too, launching a maternity line for her fashion collection, along with a fragrance called Vintage Bloom after giving birth to her son Eric Johnson.
But that isn't all the superstar has dabbled in. Jessica has also made her way into interior design.
In 2013, Simpson created a range of interior decoration items the same year her son Ace Knute Johnson was born, available at Bed Bath & Beyond as Business of Fashion reports.
She also created a range of workout clothing.
"Here's to the next billion," she said in a statement.
This year, she launched her memoir Open Book. She had signed over 14,000 books ahead of its launch. The book was selling for $20 a pop, meaning she had already made US$280,000.
