Jennifer Aniston has reportedly been dumped by her rock star boyfriend John Mayer.
The pair initially decided to spend some time apart, before calling an end to their relationship earlier this week, says celebrity news website Mirror.co.uk.
"There's been a bit of tension for some time," a source close to 30-year-old Mayer told the website.
"They initially opted for a break, hoping a trial split might make them stronger. Sadly it doesn't seem to have worked.
"John took the decision to end things as he felt he just wasn't ready for the level of commitment that Jennifer deserved."
The split comes just weeks after the couple were rumoured to be considering marriage.
Aniston was said to be initially "furious" with Mayer's decision to end their relationship, but is now "simply sad - not to mention a little heartbroken," adds the source.
Unlucky-in-love Aniston, 38, has struggled to find a long-term partner since she divorced from Brad Pitt four years ago. Last year she dated British model Paul Sculfor, and was previously romantically linked to actor Vince Vaughn, her co-star in 2006 film The Break-Up.
Reps for Aniston and Mayer have declined to comment.
