Jeff Bridges reveals what a nightmare Iron Man was to film

Jeff Bridges has revealed that Iron Man had a number of script issues when they started filming.

It was the movie that started the biggest franchise in the world, but behind the scenes, Iron Man was close to falling apart.

Jeff Bridges, who played villain Obadiah Stone in the 2008 movie, has spoken about the fact the actors began filming each day without a script.

Speaking to Matthew McConaughey as part of Variety's Actors on Actors series, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that he worked with director Jon Favreau and star Robert Downey Jr to tighten the script before filming.

"We worked on it for a couple of weeks, and we got it kinda polished pretty good. And we're going go to work the next day and we get a call from the Marvel guys saying, 'Oh no, this won't fly'."

The superhero movie was then left without a script, leading to serious problems on set.

"So it turned out that many times, maybe 10, 12, 15 times, we'd show up to work not knowing what we're going to shoot. All the guys are in the studio tapping their foot, looking at their watch. And we're in my trailer trying to figure out my lines, on the day!"

Bridges said that the whole situation drove him crazy until he made an adjustment to his thinking.

"'Jeff, just relax, you're on a $200 million student film, have fun'," the actor told himself.

"And I love the movie, it was great, but it took me a while, I was pissed."

Those changes appear worth it in the end. Iron Man, about billionaire Tony Stark, made $826 million at the global box office, and kick-started the Marvel Cinematic Universe and earned 94 per cent approval on RottenTomatoes upon its release.
