Jane Campion picks up another award in Auckland

Director Jane Campion and screenwriter Dean Parker have been honoured at an awards ceremony in Auckland last night.

They were handed Laureate gongs at the 2013 Macquaurie Private Wealth New Zealand Arts Awards.

The accolade recognises excellence in their field and aims to support their "outstanding potential for future growth".

Director, producer and screenwriter, Ms Campion has received international acclaim this year for her New Zealand-shot mini-series, Top of the Lake.

She adds the Laureate Award to the Carrosse d'Or she picked up in Cannes earlier this year.

Mr Parker, a screenwriter, playwright, journalist and political commentator, is known for his film Came a Hot Friday, and the play Midnight in Moscow.

"It's great to have these two filmmakers recognised by the wider New Zealand arts sector at these prestigious awards," said New Zealand Film Commission chief executive Graeme Mason.

"These awards are both well-deserved and a fantastic investment in their next endeavours.''
