James Rolleston has landed yet another major role in a local feature. The Boy star who last year added The Dead Lands and The Dark Horse to his list of film credits is starring in The Rehearsal, an adaptation of the debut novel by author Eleanor Catton.
Rolleston plays Stanley a naive drama student in an ensemble which also includes Kerry Fox, Miranda Harcourt, Tandi Wright, and Cohen Holloway.
Among his younger cast mates are Alice Englert - the daughter of director Jane Campion - as well as country singer Marlon Williams in his first acting role and teenage internet star Jamie Curry.
Filming began today on the movie which is the first New Zealand production for director Alison Maclean since her 1992 debut feature Crush. The book has been adapted by her and writer Emily Perkins.
"It's thrilling to be working in New Zealand again, seeing it with fresh eyes. I'm just astounded by the calibre of the cast, and looking forward to bringing Eleanor's novel to life as a film, " says Maclean.
