KEY POINTS:
The Big Day Out music festival was on at Mt Smart Stadium today. Have say about the Big Day Out.
Here's what you've had to say:
Afterwards:
Claire Peace
We have read Russell, Rebecca's and Scott's reviews in Saturday's paper and have to strongly disagree with some of their statements.
Muse were not ridiculous or pompous at all. Since when has loud at a concert been a bad thing?! They were cool and us diehard fans had the best time listening and dancing to their set. Even friends who didn't know them well previously got totally into them. Their live performance was the highlight for us of this year's BDO.
How can you say that My Chemical Romance never really got going? Were you there?! Everyone was tripping out and some people had gone expressly for this performance and dressed for the occasion. We are not EMOs but had to commend their dedication to the cause. They were certainly enjoying themselves, even if you old fogeys weren't!!
Did Tool really draw the biggest crowd for headliners in years? A lot of people seemed quite happy to go home after Muse, or move on to the Femmes or Shapeshifter, only a relatively small crowd of diehard Tool fans remained till the end. We would have stayed too but we are a bit short! We loved Tool's songs but seemingly thousands of people were moving past us to the stairs!!
The Violent Femmes were a great end to the night although the Bluegrass number brought the vibe down quite considerably as the 4th song. They redeemed themselves later but it was a close thing. (I had a sore tummy but after half an hour the Femmes had mellowed me out. As had the English guys smoking pot beside me... thanks guys!)
And for all those that were then headed for the train to get home... it wasn't that bad. A bit of patience was all that we needed. I thought the organisers did very well with the crowd control. Well done Train guys!!!! Bless you all, I'm home safe, hope you all had a good day out.
On the Day:
The sound in the main arena was absolutely shocking - especially for The Killers. I gave up after three numbers which I could barely hear. Please get something sorted for next year that takes account of the size of the space!
Best sets of the day were The Veils ; John Butler Trio; and Hot Chip in the Boiler Room.
The bus ride to the BDO - The bus is considered by most to be overpriced however it is a quick and easy way to get to BDO. The general mood on the bus is good! : )
Huge opening to Chemicals. Dressed in black against black background. Look fantastic. Crowd waving dancing.
My Chemical Romance r terrible. Can't hear a anything. Its like they forgot 2 turn his mic on! Everyone's standin not sure wat 2 do.
Blindspott just played epic set. Wanted to put overseas bands to shame and they have. Best lungs in business.
New zealand u look amazing...says lead singer chemicals. You have one f*** beautiful country them into rocking song.
Blindspott then my chemical romance have crowd warmed up. Chemicals putting all into it. Huge energy.
Lead singer my chemical romance the best thing since freddie mercury. Keeps pleading for crowd to back up to stop crush. Playing black parade and crowd singing along.
Lily Allen PACKS boiler room.
Sound for Killers is apalling. Paddy Gower
Police and security couldn't control people trying to enter the D barrier/mosh pit to see Killers and Muse.
