A caller tells Fletch, Vaughan and Megan the story of how her Poppa tried to reach out to her and her Dad the day before his funeral. / ZM
In the midst of Halloween, the ZM Breakfast team were after a scary story to kick off their spooky day — let's just say this Kiwi caller left everyone with goosebumps with this chilling yarn.
Caitlin told Fletch, Vaughan and Megan the story of how her late Poppa tried toreach out to her and her dad.
Setting the scene, she explains how her poppa passed away, whereafter the family decided to have a barbecue in Auckland the day before his funeral.
She then explains how her Poppa's cell phone was downstairs in the foyer — without a battery.
When Caitlin and her dad went to go buy food for the barbecue, something spooky happened.
"I went downstairs to put my shoes on and the phone started ringing and lighting up," she starting explaining.
"And there was nothing written on the screen or anything like that and the battery was out, so there was no way that it could of happened except for something supernatural."
Vaughan, reacting in shock, then asks if she answered the phone call.
"I tried to answer it, nothing was there ... I was pushing all the buttons ... nothing was happening it was just ringing through," Caitlin replied.
She then said her and her dad didn't talk about it for years until six months ago, when they discovered the whole thing was true and actually happened.
"I just mentioned it and he was like 'I didn't know you saw it too, I thought it was just me,'" Caitlin said.
The ZM hosts look at each other, freaked out.
"I've got goosebumps," Fletch says, wriggling in his chair.
"That's creepy," Meghan agrees.
Vaughn finishes the call with a joke to lighten up the mood in the studio:
"You answer it and say 'hello Poppa' and he's like: 'Shoes off inside!'"
