KEY POINTS:
As I start to connect up my new PlayStation 3, I feel nostalgic about how far we have come in such a short time.
It feels light years in the past but the PlayStation original wasn't released until 1994. Things could have been very different as originally (in 1988), Sony and Nintendo were working on a CD-Rom attachment for gaming but things didn't work out so Sony's engineering genius Ken Kutaragi eventually developed the PlayStation.
Just a few weeks ago, it was announced that Sony had reached an agreement with Kutaragi to retire but become an honorary chairman and adviser. Some media commentators have done negative "obituaries" blaming the man known as the "Father of the PlayStation" for the PS3's production difficulties. How unfair. Without Kutangi's extraordinary vision there would have been no PS3 - let alone a PlayStation at all. It's hard to find the words to justify how much praise he deserves.
Even though PSOne obviously wasn't the first gaming machine, it took us to new heights. My favourite games?
They are (in no particular order): Crash Bandicoot, Final Fantasy VII, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Tekken, Tomb Raiser, Wipeout.
Send me your list using the link below of the best PSOne games and I'll put up some lists next week.
Meanwhile this report quotes Kutaragi as saying Sony is already working on PlayStation 4, 5 and 6. Hang on guys - I'm only just connecting up PS3 to Hi-Def!
