Verdict: This album will make you yearn for a Libertines' reunion
Label: Shock Records
One has to question the motives of a band putting out a Best Of album, when they only have two records to their name.
Could it be former frontman Pete Doherty has snorted all his earnings and is in desperate need of a quick cash injection?
Most Libertines' fans will likely own both the band's records and see little appeal in this compilation, which draws heavily on the 2002 debut album Up the Bracket. The only new material to feature is The Delaney, originally recorded for the band's second album, and Mayday - an extra track featured exclusively on the Australian release of Up the Bracket.
But for those who missed out first time round, this is your chance to discover one of the greatest bands of the 21st century and their rambling, rollicking rock n' roll.
Produced by Mick Jones of the Clash, the Libertines' sound is unmistakable. From their debut single, and arguably best work, What a Waster, the album documents the band's demise, ending with their final-ever release What Became of the Likely Lads. A fitting end, which reminds us how great the Libertines were. And how tragic their break up was.
