While pretty whippet fans of NZ's Next Top Model may cluelessly look up to Tyra Banks or Sara Tetro as the gurus of all things modelling, the real McCoy may be setting forth a pedicured toe in Godzone this week. The paparazzi are waiting breathlessly; and if the British tabloids are to be believed, the coke dealers are stocked.
Supermodel Kate Moss may be visiting our shores to accompany her rock star boyfriend Jamie Hince of The Kills, whose indie rock band (including Alison Mosshart) is performing here at Wellington's San Francisco Bathhouse tomorrow night and the Transmission Room in Auckland on Thursday night.
Hince's missus is not the usual groupie tag-along. Moss is the uber star girlfriend of moody, thrill-seeking narcissists of the music variety. Remember Pete Doherty, anyone?
Hince, to give him credit, has a substantially better wardrobe and clearer skin. Still, one wonders, does Ms Moss ever stop and contemplate now that she's 35-years-old, with an estimated fortune of £45 million (NZ$79 million), and a child tucked up at home in bed: 'Can I really drag out the Wellies and do another Glastonbury with the kids, or am I too old for this s***'?
Evidently not. Last week in London, Moss made daily headlines in the British papers for her hard-partying antics four nights in a row in the same whiffy Yves Saint Laurent tuxedo jacket that, surely, must be at the drycleaners by now. Moss has stamina.
The week began with birthday wishes for her boss Sir Philip Green of TopShop fame snapped in that infamous tux jacket minus any decency; then fashion designer Alexander McQueen's 40th birthday bash in Shoreditch; followed by snogging with her man at the Mummy Rocks charity bash at Garrard jewellers in Mayfair; and then some overt hand-holding displays with Hince at that most cultural of events, the PlayStation Sing Star launch at Volstead nightclub.
Kate, you'd have thought, doesn't do PDA. But not so. The image-obsessed mannequin was spotted crying last year when she broke up with Hince, albeit temporarily, which goes to show that not everything in model land only lasts a fashion season.
