KEY POINTS:
The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra goes a la Francais tonight in the second concert of Splendour of the Baroque.
Individual splendours include marching Turks courtesy of Lully and terpsichorean treats from Rameau.
With the noted Australian gamba player Laura Vaughan on stage, expect more subtle Gallicisms in the compositions of Marin Marais whose often meditative viola da gamba compositions featured in the 1991 film Tous les matins du monde. These works should be a revelation.
Vaughan will also feature next Monday in Roy Goodman and Friends, the orchestra's chamber-sized concert which is the final of the APO's successful Twilightseries.
* Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra: Splendour of the Baroque, Auckland Town Hall, tonight at 8pm; Roy Goodman and Friends, Town Hall Concert Chamber, Monday 6.30pm.
