Haydn Sherley, a broadcaster and promoter of New Zealand's jazz scene, has died at the age of 83.
His jazz show In a Mellow Tone was broadcast for 30 years on National Radio. He joined the Broadcasting Service in 1953, later becoming a trainer of announcers and a senior executive producer at National Radio.
He was awarded the Queen's Service Medal for services to broadcasting in 1989. He officially retired in 1983, but continued to present his show until March this year.
