Edith Campion and husband Richard earned fame with their touring company, the New Zealand Players, performing excerpts from famous plays to audiences who often had little experience of professional theatre.
In 1960 she turned to writing. Many of her stories and poems were published in Islands, Landfall and the Listener.
Her books included A Place to Pass Through and Other Stories and a novel, The Chain.
She had a cameo role in the 1990 film An Angel at my Table, the first New Zealand film directed by daughter Jane.
