The arrival of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is just the start of a week of four-string madness which culminates in the NZ Ukulele Festival on November 27. That will feature a mass performance of 2200 players to an expected 10,000-strong crowd.
The annual strum-along was put in jeopardy when U2 set its sights on Mt Smart Stadium - the venue for past gatherings - but the free festival has been shifted to Trusts Stadium, Waitakere.
Among the visiting stars are Ukulele Bartt from Los Angeles and Australian jazz ukulele virtuoso Azo Bell who will join local ouftis 2POUZFYNEST and the Trio of Tangaro.
Song-writing, ukulele-art, industry and food stalls, workshops for all levels and giveaways will be part of the day along with new events like Uke-Quest, the Fastest Strummer In the West and the grand finale, the Great Kiwi Uke-Along - a set of iconic Kiwi songs played and sung by the crowd and led by the stars.
