In a move bringing new meaning to 'Netflix and chill' the streaming giant is releasing its own cannabis

In a move bringing new meaning to the phrase "Netflix and chill" the streaming service is developing its own line of cannabis.

Entertainment industry publication Variety reported the company has created 10 different strains of marijuana inspired by its most popular shows.

It's all part of a promotion for the upcoming series Disjointed, which tells the story of a woman who opens a cannabis store after the drug is legalised.

"Each strain was cultivated with the specific shows in mind, designed to complement each title based on their tone," Variety quoted from a Netflix statement.

"For example, sillier shows may be more indica dominant, while dramedies will be more sativa dominant to help the more powerful scenes resonate."

Of course, fans won't be able to order the new Netflix-branded weed and have it shipped Down Under because of our laws.

But for Americans, they can grab a pack from a pop-up shop in West Hollywood, California this coming weekend.

That is, provided they have a qualifying medical condition to comply with state laws.

Three of the strains, named the Omega Strain, Eve's Bush and Rutherford B Haze, are inspired by Disjointed, which premieres this weekend.

Other varieties were created in honour of animated series Bojack Horseman, the prison drama Orange Is The New Black and comedy hit Grace And Frankie.

"Netflix made the point in its press materials that it's not profiting off the sales of the product, which are for promotional purposes," Variety pointed out.
