KEY POINTS:
Jail seemed to be the place to be in 2007 for Hollywood's A-list. The reasons varied but the most common crimes seemed to be an excess of drugs and alcohol mixed with that big no no, driving.
The most widely known 2007 jailbird is heiress Paris Hilton, who was sent to the slammer in June for violating the terms of a probation sentence imposed following a drunk driving plea. Hilton was sentenced to 45 days, was released after three days, and then sent back after an outcry over perceived preferential treatment. She spent three weeks behind bars before emerging amid a blaze of publicity, photos and interviews.
In August actress Nicole Richie of The Simple Life spent one hour, 20 minutes in jail for what was a four-day sentence for driving under the influence of drugs.
O.J. Simpson was arrested in September for the alleged armed robbery of a memorabilia dealer in a Las Vegas hotel room. Simpson will stand trial in April.
Rapper T.I. was picked up in mid-October in Atlanta on charges of buying illegal machine guns, possession of three unregistered machine guns and two silencers, and possession of firearms by a convicted felon. He is currently awaiting trial.
Actress Lindsay Lohan checked in and out of jail on one day in November, spending just 84 minutes behind bars for a drunken driving and cocaine-possession conviction.
In perhaps the most amusing location for an arrest, singer Kid Rock was arrested in October in an Altanta Waffle House at 5.15am after a fight. He escaped conviction.
Actor Kiefer Sutherland, star of the hit television series 24, is currently serving 48 days in Glendale, California city jail for drunken driving. He was sentenced on December 6.
Other celebs who were booked by police this year include Transformers star Shia LaBeouf, Lost actors Daniel Dae Kim and Michelle Rodriguez, actor Mickey Rourke, Hulk Hogan's son Nick Bollea, rapper Lil Wayne, and boxer Mike Tyson.
