I loved the young man who appeared on Campbell Live this week, bemoaning the fact that he'd been expelled from the Metallica concert on Wednesday night.
Apparently, Sam Vallance and three mates had been a little overexcited at seeing their favourite band live and, in the course of that overexcitement, Sam spilled some of his beer on the girl in the seat in front.
She had a total hissy fit, refused to accept his apology and had him removed from the concert.
Sam's mates left with him, in the true spirit of mateship, and a thoroughly miserable night was had by all.
Being chucked out of a Metallica concert for being a bit pissed and rowdy? I would have thought it would have been a prerequisite. As Sam himself put it so beautifully: "I'm a bogan. That's what bogans do."
One of my callers wondered if the girls who complained were the same girls who brought a picnic rug to the AC/DC concert at Western Springs and then tried to protect their patch and their onion dip from the trampling black boots of the fans. They moaned and snivelled and whined - but to no avail. The French bread and pate were toast.
I know it's irritating when people impinge on your idea of what's a good time. But there's a time and place for a picnic and that's at the Villa Maria concerts. Or maybe at Christmas in the Park, but only if you're right up the back of the domain. It's not at Western Springs with AC/DC.
And surely there's a time to grit your teeth and smile and put up with pissed bogans, and that's at a Metallica concert.
