KEY POINTS:
A who's who of Auckland's architects filled the beautifully restored Gus Fisher Gallery last night for the opening of the Kumamoto Artpolis: Architecture through Communication exhibition.
Organised by the Japan Foundation and the Consulate-General of Japan in Auckland, the exhibition highlights the pick of the Kumamoto Artpolis project - a public architecture programme in southern Japan.
The Kumamoto region is dotted with almost 100 buildings designed by Japan's best architects, with a goal to not just improve building design, but use architectural projects to bring together architects and local residents.
Guests nibbled salmon sushi while enjoying the lavishly photographed images of many examples of the architecture. The exhibition, which runs until April 1, includes many original sketches from the architects, paper models and slide shows.
Highlight: Fantastic photos and sketches.
Lowlight: Not enough photos and sketches.
