KEY POINTS:
Fans of the H.G. Wells classic War of the Worlds headed to Vector Arena at the weekend to see Jeff Wayne's musical adaptation live on stage.
Featuring a 40-piece string orchestra, 10-piece band and vocals by Justin Hayward and Chris Thompson, the show opened in Auckland on Friday night for a brief, two-night run.
Adapted from Wayne's 1978 concept album, the event drew fans of all ages - including a few who dressed up in Victorian costume.
Highlight
Hearing Wayne's original composition as it should be - live and loud.
Lowlight
Vector Arena disappointing fans once again, garbling the vocals of Hayward and Thompson, making their words largely incomprehensible.
