Hay bales and sheep carcasses littered the foyer of Hoyts Sylvia Park on Thursday night for the New Zealand premiere of Jonathan King's horror comedy Black Sheep.
The night also marked the debut of Auckland's newest theatre complex, home to the world's largest cinema screen, Cinemaxx, which stands 30.6m wide and 10m high.
A sizeable crowd packed the multiplex foyer for champagne and canapes as a who's who of the local film industry strolled the red carpet, setting off a media scrum.
Director King diligently did the media rounds and the film's stars, Peter Feeney, Oliver Driver, Tandi Wright and Tammy Davis, chatted and charmed their way around the room.
King said he was excited at being able to to show the film to a New Zealand audience and watch the response to the black and bloody comedy.
Cabinet minister Chris Carter showed off his humour - and his legs - attending the premiere in classic Kiwi couture - Swanndri, stubbies and gumboots.
English entertainer and sometime New Zealand resident Michael Barrymore made a rare public appearance to support the local film, which was given a 4-star rating by the Herald's entertainment editor, Russell Baillie.
