KEY POINTS:
Former Silver Fern and TV presenter April Ieremia was the first casualty of TV One's Dancing with the Stars after she was voted off the hit celebrity show last night.
Ieremia, who danced the quickstep, and Wanganui Mayor Michael Laws made it down to the "final two" after receiving the lowest number of votes.
While many believed Laws' lack of rhythm and his stiffness would see him go, he pulled through to be given a second chance to wow audiences next week with his unique dancing style, which at times resembles a slightly deranged person hopping about.
Ieremia and her dancing partner, Csaba Szirmai, received a score of 21 from the four judges - the second lowest of the night.
Ieremia received a mix bag of comments from the judges.
They ranged from "You've got it, girl" from Carol-Ann Hickmore to "It was lively, but way too heavy" from Craig Revel-Horwood.
Laws, who has a broken toe, and his dancing partner, Lauren de Boeck, received the lowest score on the show with only 19 points.
However the public, whose votes count for 50 per cent, decided Ieremia had to go.
Laws, who was last week given a lowly score of one by Revel-Horwood, managed to get a three out of him for his performance last night.
Megan Alatini, a NZ Idol judge and singer, scored the highest points from the judges - a whopping 36.
Infomercial queen Suzanne Paul came in second with 35 points, and former All Black Frank Bunce scored 33 points, as did actress Greer Robson.
Broadcaster Paul Holmes scored 22 and TV presenter and former Tall Black Brendon Pongia scored 28.
Holmes incurred the wrath of Revel-Horwood, who said his dancing was "absolutely tragic".
