KEY POINTS:
Janet Roddick is performing in The Songs Of Kurt Weill at The Famous Spiegeltent at 7pm tonight.
Tell us about your show in two sentences or less:
The only song most people think they know is Mack The Knife but there are so many more brilliant songs by Kurt Weill (lyrics by Bertolt Brecht and Ogden Nash among others), about the darker side of life, love and lust brought to life by some great musicians in a wonderful live performance.
What is your role in the show?
I am 'the singer', but I also play piano and trombone.
Why should people go and see it?
We hardly ever get the chance hear/see these great songs performed live in New Zealand. They are occasionally done as part of the plays eg. Happy End or Threepenny Opera but hardly ever. And most of our group live in Wellington and only play live for very special occasions, so this is Aucklanders one and only chance.
Describe your best ever live performance experience
This is hard....singing the role of Pirate Jenny in Colin McColl's Threepenny Opera at Downstage many years ago or maybe singing as a soloist in the world premiere of Howard Shore's Lord Of The Rings Symphony at one days notice! Perhaps my performance at The Spiegeltentt will be my best?
Which AK07 acts - other than your own - will you be going to see?
I'm only in town for the one night so won't see anything but I would see Penumbra and 10 Days On Earth if I could.
