Hugh Jackman left Hollywood hardman Russell Crowe battered and bruised on the set of Les Miserables after smashing a block of wood on his back.
The X-Men star and the Gladiator actor co-star in director Tom Hooper's new movie musical version of Victor Hugo's classic French novel.
They teamed up to shoot several fight scenes for the film, but Jackman admits he was so determined to make the brawl realistic, he accidentally clubbed his co-star with a lump of wood.
"I was doing scenes with Gladiator - with Russell Crowe. I did get a little over-zealous in one scene where we were doing a little bit of a fight scene and I accidentally hit him with a four-by-two (block of wood) and I was like, 'Did I hit you there mate?', and he was like, 'No, I'm alright, I'm fine'," he told UK TV show This Morning.
"At the end of the day he takes his costume off and he had this big line right down his back."
