Hefner also confirmed RadarOnline's earlier report that the romance is back on, saying that it was his longtime secretary who helped them reconcile.
"It's Mary O'Conner that brought Crystal Harris back," he explained in a tweet. "Crystal was miserable and said so. Mary told Crystal to write and tell me, which she did."
He added: "Getting back together with Crystal Harris shouldn't be a big surprise, since I have a history of remaining close to former girlfriends."
The couple announced their engagement in December 2010, after Hefner, 86, proposed to 26-year-old on Christmas Eve.
But just five days before she was set to trot down the aisle and make an honest man out of Hef, Harris called off the wedding.
"The wedding is off," Hef tweeted at the time. "Crystal has had a change of heart.
"The breakup is a heart breaker, but better now than after the marriage," he later added.
Harris said in a statement: "After much deep reflection and thought I have decided to end my engagement with Hef. I have the utmost respect for Hef and wish him the best going forward. I hope the media will give each of us the privacy we deserve during this time."
The breakup was reportedly sparked after the pair had the mother of all arguments, resulting in Harris packing her bags and hightailing it from the Playboy Mansion.
Her parting shot to the lusty octogenarian? She took potshots at the mag mogul's in-the-sack skills - calling him a two-second man.
Asked by "shock jock" Howard Stern about their doomed relationship, Harris said: "Hef doesn't really take off his clothes. I have never seen him naked."
Harris also said she was "not turned on" by him and only had sex one time during their relationship.
"It lasted like about two seconds," she told Stern, as we collectively reached for the mind bleach.
"Then I was just over it," she added. "I was like, 'Ahhh.' I was over it. I just like, walked away. I'm not turned on by Hef, sorry."
Responding to Harris' interview, iconic ladies' man Hefner took to Twitter to vent his feelings.
"Crystal did a crazy interview with Howard Stern today that didn't have much to do with reality. Is she trying to impress a new boyfriend?" he wrote.
"We had sex once a week. We had sex with her and a girlfriend. We had sex the first night that we met, with another girl, and it was such a nice relationship that I kept them both over for a weekend," he said.
He later tweeted: "I feel sorry for Crystal. She seems lost," while calling Harris a liar, writing, "Crystal convinced me that she adored me. That was the first lie."
Jilted Hef also had a change of heart about the nixed nuptials, saying that he felt he "dodged a bullet" by not marrying Harris.
"Quite frankly, I don't know what I was thinking about. I think my natural state is single," he told Entertainment Tonight . "I've tried marriage twice, not successfully. These were not the happiest times of my life."
But all appears to be forgiven as Hef's new (old) #1 girl is once again shacked up at the Playboy Mansion. A move that has reportedly gone down like a lead balloon with Hefner's girlfriend Shera Bechard, 27.
"Shera Bechard, Hef's #1 girlfriend, moved out as soon as Crystal moved back in," a snitch dished last week.
Although Hef insists that Bechard will eventually return through the legendary mansion's revolving doors.
"Shera is in Canada visiting her family, which is unrelated to Crystal being here," he wrote.
So does this mean the twice-divorced octogenarian is revving up to shuffle down the aisle again?
"Never say never where Hugh Hefner is concerned," a source said last week.
Mind you, if he does pop the question, Hef will have to fork out for new engagement bling. Harris put the orphaned $90,000 engagement sparkler Hef bought her up on the auction block last October.
