GO
It's that time of year; the Auckland Writers Festival is on now until the end of the week so you've still got time to head along to one of the many great events on the calendar. Tonight you can catch the True Stories Told Live festival gala night and a conversation with Kiwi folk singer Nadia Reid hosted by fellow artist Tama Waipara. There's also Hemi Kelly's daily te reo Māori lessons, a conversation with poet Selina Tusitala Marsh and, of course, a conversation with essayist Durga Chew-Bose, hosted by pop star Lorde. Check out writersfestival.co.nz to see what else is on and where and when to head along.
LAUGH
This weekend also marks the end of the New Zealand Comedy Festival and your final chance to see some of this year's comics in action. My wish list includes award-winning musical comedy duo The Fan Brigade's sold out show Feminazi Bitches; Melanie Bracewell's not-at-all-Lorde-related Melodrama; Ray Shipley taking on relationship advice from a 1950s book for teens, and Kolopa and Jes'mine's Memoirs of a Statistic - a "#woke show from two angry brown feminazis" at which "you'll laugh so hard you won't even notice they're angry". The festival wraps up Sunday so head to comedyfestival.co.nz to get amongst it before it's too late.
