KEY POINTS:
Paul Holmes' routine on tonight's Dancing With the Stars is likely to raise a few eyebrows among Latin dance purists.
The broadcaster and his dance partner Rebecca Nicholson will shun tradition by performing the paso doble - the Strength of the Matador dance - to Michael Jackson's Thriller.
Holmes had earlier said the timeframe to learn the routine, cut short by Anzac Day, was "crazy".
But by yesterday he felt confident, having finally found his feet on the glittering set.
"We've been having very worrying rehearsals but today went quite well."
In the unusual interpretation, the duo will, perhaps bravely, emulate the walking dead seen in the 1980s hit song's big-budget video, in tribute to Jackson.
Holmes managed just 15 points for his tango last week and suffered some harsh words from the judges.
Judge Brendan Cole described his dancing as "a little desperate" and Craig Revel-Horwood said "the whole thing was lame, limp and completely lacklustre".
Holmes is not the only only performer breaking with tradition tonight.
Former Shortland Street star Greer Robson and dance partner Aaron Gilmore's routine is choreographed to It's My Life by Bon Jovi.
